This introductory course for business start-ups introduces learners to an overview of the safety and health requirements for all workplaces. It presents learners with an outline of key duties of an employer, including the self-employed, under Irish health and safety law. it explains the purpose of a safety statement and outlines the importance of managing health and safety at work.

• Describe what is needed to manage safety, health and welfare in a new business
• Describe key employers' duties under the Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act (2005)
• Explain the purpose of a safety statement
• Explain the risk assessment process
• Conduct a simple risk assessment of a hazard in your workplace
