    The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has developed this course with the support of the Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland (HSE NI). The course is an introduction to tractor safety, and highlights the important safety considerations around working with tractors and farm machinery.

    • Identify the hazards associated with tractors and farm machinery
    • Recognise the types of tractor-related accidents that can occur and how to prevent them
    • Apply safe work practices before using a tractor or farm machinery

  • Farm Safely with Slurry

    Tractor slurry

    This short course will help farmers to plan and prepare for slurry spreading. It provides an opportunity for farmers to increase their awareness of the dangers associated with slurry and how to prevent accidents occurring to themselves and to others.

    Course duration: 30 minutes

    Learning outcomes:

    On successful completion of this course you should be able to:

    • Identify the best times and conditions for spreading slurry
    • Recognise the need to plan ahead and make appropriate preparations to work safely
    • Recognise the dangers associated with slurry
    • Implement the appropriate control measures to prevent accidents when working with slurry
    • Source important farm safety information from the Health and Safety Authority

  • Health and Safety for Seasonal Workers in Horticulture

    This online course is suitable for seasonal workers, students, and anybody working in horticulture on a part-time or full-time basis. It is also a useful refresher course for seasonal workers who may be returning to work in Ireland after a break. Translated versions of the course will also be available.

    Course duration: 40 minutes

    Learning outcomes:

    On successful completion of this course you should be able to:

    • identify employer and employee responsibilities in the workplace
    • recognise key hazards and risks in horticulture
    • protect your welfare and wellbeing at work
    • source further health and safety information and guidance

    If you are an employer, you may wish to use the Group Manager facility to register a group to take the course. You must be logged in to use this facility.

    Certification and digital badges:

    A certificate is awarded to participants on successful completion of the course. This includes a short assessment at the end of the course. A minimum score of 80% is required to pass. Once complete, you will be able to download your certificate.
