Digital Badges

Health and Safety Authority Digital Badge Awards

What are HSA Digital Badges?

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) issue digital badges to students in post-primary schools, or colleges of further education in the Republic of Ireland who participate in the HSA Choose Safety Programme. A digital badge is an on-line symbol or indicator of an accomplishment, skill, competency or interest. Badges can be used to represent achievements, communicate successes and set goals. Digital badges can complement the certificates that students get for completing the entire programme because a badge is awarded for each unit of the programme. This may suit teachers who teach inidividual units of the course.

Choose Safety Programme

The Choose Safety programme is a teaching and learning resource for senior cycle students in schools . These modules are usually delivered to Senior Cycle students undertaking any senior cycle subjects as well as: Transition Year, Leaving Certificate Applied, LCVP, as well as PLC and other courses in further education.

How it works

Students can earn digital badges for completion of HSA Choose Safety programme modules that are delivered in participating schools and colleges of further education. The digital badges are awarded by teachers upon completion of the modules, using students' email addresses. Students need to have their own email address to be issued digital badges. Badges are issued from our Digital Badge Platform -> http://badges.hsalearning.ie

Learners

When you complete one of the Choose Safety modules in a participating school, you will earn a digital badge. This is awarded to you in recognition of your increased understanding of health and safety. You will be sent notification of the award via email.

You can collect your badges in a secure online backpack and if you decide to, you can share them with family and friends, teachers and potential employers by displaying them on your online cv, social networking site etc.

Schools

Schools already doing the Choose Safety Programme, just need to apply to the HSA Badges team to get access to the Digital Badges Platform in order to award their students who complete some or all modules. Teachers can complete the form to register students for the badges.
