What is hsalearning.ie?
hsalearning.ie is an educational platform consisting of a range of free online health and safety courses. All of the courses have been developed by the Health and Safety Authority with the aim of improving awareness of workplace safety, health and welfare. The self-directed courses give learners the flexibility to choose a course, and to study it in their own time and at their own pace.

The HSA online courses cover a wide range of safety, health, and welfare topics which will be of specific interest to learners across a range of work sectors:

Who are these courses for?
The online courses are suitable for anyone who wants to increase their awareness of health and safety in the workplace. They are particularly relevant to those working in education, healthcare, transport, agriculture, construction, and small businesses. A number of the courses are aimed at teachers and also students within the Irish education system. Anyone can enrol and complete any number of courses that will benefit them, their employees, colleagues, service users, or students in the area of safety, health and welfare in the workplace. The courses are specific to workplaces in Ireland.
How much does a course cost?
All of the courses on hsalearning.ie are free.
Are the HSA online courses certified?
On successful completion of a course learners can download a certificate of completion. This certificate is confirmation that you have completed an awareness raising course. It is not a qualification but may be used for training record purposes in work or education. CPD points will be awarded from the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) for successful completion of six Healthcare courses. In addition, four Workplace Transport Safety courses are registered Engineers Ireland CPD Training. All courses have been developed by the Health and Safety Authority with the aim of improving knowledge and raising awareness of workplace safety, health and welfare.
What does taking a HSA online course involve?
You can browse through the list of courses available and their description before registering on hsalearning.ie. Once you decide to enrol on your first course you will be asked to register your details on the site. You will then use your login details to log in and enrol on any other HSA course you wish to complete. Once you enter a course you simply follow the instructions to take you through the course pages and content, completing any elements required. At the end, when you have successfully completed all elements of the course, you will be instructed on how to complete and print your certificate.
How many courses can I take?
You can take any number of courses in the online suite. Once you have registered and have your login details, simply browse the list of courses available, choose a course you are interested in and follow the instructions to login and enrol.
How long does it take to complete a course?
The time to complete a course will vary. Some courses have an estimated completion time of 30 minutes, others will take between 90 and 140 minutes. The guideline for how long a course might take to complete is shown on the course outline page. This also includes a short description of the course.
Can you save a partly completed course and come back to it?
Yes, you can progress through a course at your own pace. The system will save your progress and you can leave a course and logout and come back and complete it at a later time/date. However, you must complete the entire course successfully to receive certification.
How long will I be enrolled on a course for?
Once you have been enrolled on a course you can access it any time, even if you have completed the course. The course may be reviewed in review mode without affecting your initial grade.
Can any other person see my details and course progress if I register and take a course?
No, this is a secure site and your details and course progress can only be seen by you. However, if you have been invited to enrol as part of a group taking a course, the group administrator can see your name and whether you have completed or not.
Can I complete the same course more than once?
You have unlimited access to the units of learning. If you wish to take the course again, it will record results based on your last completed attempt.
How can I find a course I want?
You do not need to register on the site to browse the courses available. There is a browsing section on the main page of the online site that allows you to easily search for a course relevant to you:
How can I register to take a course?
To access any of the courses on https://hsalearning.ie a once-off registration is required.
You can do this by selecting the course you wish to view. Select ‘Enter Course’. You will see the ' Login/Create a new account' screen.
Select ‘Create a new account’ and follow the steps. You will receive your username and password to your email address. You can then use this information to enrol on any of the courses at any time on https://hsalearning.ie
Note: Once you have registered, select the course you are interested in, and click on the [Enter course] button to enrol. You should now have full access to your selected course. From now on each course you enrol on will be listed under 'My Courses'.
How can I change my password?
Changing your password is easy. When you are logged in and on the Home Page of hsalearning.ie you will see an option on the left hand side of the page (under the block with your name) called [Change password]. This will allow you to change your password. Click on this, enter your current password and the one you want to change it to where required and click [Save Changes]. Use the new password the next time you log in.
How can I un-enrol from a course or de-register from hsalearning.ie?
You will need to send an email to the HSA Support Team to be un-enrolled from the course.
What should I do if I am unable to log in or forget my password?
There are a number of ways to reset your password. You can click on the Lost password? link (see image below) on the logon box and it will prompt you to search by username or email (see below). You will then be sent a link to reset your password. Alternatively, click on the Contact Us button to send an email to our support team to help you.

What should I do if I need further information or have a specific question on workplace safety, health and welfare?
All courses in the HSA online suite are specifically designed to be self -directed. This means that each course has been carefully designed to give you all the information you need to complete it. All assessment questions are based on the content presented to you in the course so there is nothing that you will need to source outside the course content.

How do I get my course certificate?
Once you have succesfully completed a course you can proceed to print your certificate of completion. For instructions on how to complete and print your certificate please see the short video. How can I complete and print my certificate?
Your certificate can be downloaded from the main course page, below the "Start this Course" button. Once this happens you will be able to view your certificate in the 'My Certificates' section.
What can I do if I lose my printed certificate?
The user block has a record of all the certificates that you will have been granted by the site. You can access your certificate from this block (see image below) or get a new version of your certificate from within the course you undertook. Click on the certificate in the course to see the My Certificates button (see image below) to get your certificate.
Can I register a group or class to take the course?
Yes. To access the HSA Group Manager facility you must first complete a once-off registration on https://hsalearning.ie. Once registered, you will be able to access any of the online courses. You simply select the course you are interested in, and enrol on it.
Once you enrol on a course you will see the ‘HSA Group Manager’ facility for that particular course, on the left hand panel of your screen. Select ‘Create Group’ and input the necessary information – see image. You will be required to enter some details including the email addresses of the people you want to participate in the group.
When your group is registered the system will automatically send each member an email inviting them to enrol on the course. To view the progress report for your group, select 'Report' to the right of the group name. Instructions in how to do this are available in the short video below.
As a group manager, you will be able to see the progress of your group – the name, completion information and completion date for each individual who has taken the course. However, you will not be able to see any other element of an individual’s course completion such as assessment scores.
N.B. A group is created in a course and can therefore only be managed from within that same course.
Can other people in a group see my details and course progress?
If you have been invited by another person to enrol as part of a group to complete a course that person, as the group administrator, will be able to see your name and whether you have completed or not. However, they will not be able to see your response to quizzes or any other element of course completion.
How can I create more space on the screen?
Use the button at the top right hand corner of a block to dock it (or move it to the dock). When a block is docked, its functionality (including the undock button) can still be accessed by hovering over the block's name in the dock.
When all blocks have been docked, items which had been located to the right of them on the screen move to the left, creating more space. While viewing a course, further screen space can be created by hiding the navigation pane. Click on the button at the top right hand corner of the navigation pane to hide it and click on the same button again to restore the pane. To undock all blocks (move them back to their original location on the screen) click on the button at the very bottom of the dock.
